The Institute for Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the FUB has ample experience in more than 40 years of research and training in tropical veterinary medicine. Research and Development activities are focusing on diagnosis and control of emerging and re-emerging diseases, including vector-borne and zoonotic diseases. Emphasis is put on integrating best-bet disease management practices including vector control towards an improvement of livestock health and productivity, thereby increasing income and human welfare. Tropical veterinary entomology

 

Work description

The candidate will be responsible for establishing an active research programme in line with the institute’s research themes entailing an involvement and supervision of work in tropical countries. The candidate is expected to participate in teaching (undergraduate and graduate students) in veterinary entomology and to familiarize with the German language. There are opportunities for collaborative research in molecular biology, infection and immunity.

 

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative person who is interested in working within a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will have a veterinary degree with a PhD (or equivalent) in entomology and should have at least two years professional experience in tropical regions of a developing country. The candidate should have proven evidence of comprehensive training/experience in vector biology and ecology, vectorial capacity and vector-borne diseases, molecular techniques, R & D in effective and innovative vector control techniques. Previous own publications in international peer-reviewed journals are an advantage. Computer skills, including experience in using packages of statistical software are prerequisites as well as good organisational skills. Oral and written fluency in English and good knowledge of French are required.
