The Society for Tropical Veterinary Medicine has established the Career Development Award to provide support for a student to participate in a workshop or training program in the area of tropical veterinary medicine.
The Award: A stipend of up to $1500 will be given to a student to be used towards the cost of attending or participating in a workshop or a training program in an area of tropical veterinary medicine. The award may be used individually or in combination with other awards but must be used to cover costs directly associated with the workshop/program.
The training program can be a structured workshop or a supervised period in a research laboratory/institution or private practice but must have direct relevance to tropical veterinary medicine.
Who Can Apply: The award is open to veterinary and graduate students worldwide who are interested in tropical veterinary medicine.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND GUIDELINES
The applicant must submit the following material for evaluation:
1. Proposal. The student should submit a proposal of not more than 2 pages describing the workshop or training program (including the time frame and location), why the student is participating and expected gains from this training. A budget of actual and anticipated expenses (registration, course material, living expenses, transportation etc.) should be included. The student should indicate additional sources of support.
2. Letters of Recommendation. Two (2) letters of recommendation should be sent with the application from faculty or members of the professional staff at the student's institution who are familiar with the background of the applicant.
3. Biographical Sketch. A vitae should be submitted with educational background, academic awards and presentations. Include a short summary of present interests and prior experiences in tropical veterinary medicine and career goals.
4. Letter of Acceptance. A letter of acceptance in the workshop or program, confirmation of registration or letter of acceptance from training coordinator should be submitted if available. (Release of award is contingent upon confirmed acceptance in the workshop/program).
5. Final Report. The applicant should submit a letter indicating their willingness to submit a synopsis and summary of the workshop/program and experiences within 2 months of completion. The student will submit a summary of expenditures and receipts indicating how award was used.
Deadline for Receipt of Material is March 1, 2007
